Shared Lock
ROAM is a publicly shared network of high-security smart bike locks that fit onto existing bike racks.
ROAM locks are smart and connected and alert you the second someone tries to steal your bike.

Made of a hardened steel with a soft aluminum casing, ROAM locks are even protected against angle grinder attacks.
1. Find available locks through app.
2. Unlock and start session by scanning QR.
3. Lock bike, enjoy peace of mind.
4. Scan lock to unlock, return lock to dock.
5. Confirm docking of lock with picture to end session.
ROAM was designed in a light, agile startup manner, co-developed with city governments, universities and bike advocacy groups.

Roam is a publicly shared bike lock network.  Roam locks fit onto existing bike racks  and are designed to eliminate bike theft globally, and make biking in cities safer and more accessible.
Industrial Craft and Roam worked across a diverse set of stakeholders using lean and agile processes to get to an MVP as quickly as possible to fundraise with.  Rapid prototyping helped to eliminate options and test new creative hardware paths.

We worked with municipalities, universities, bike advocacy groups, software developers, hardware experts, manufacturers, researchers and funders.
ROAM was designed in a bootstrapped startup process. Each phase unlocked funding for the next phase.
The ROAM lock follows a the form factor of a typical U-lock that is modified for extra strength.
Because the lock does not need to be carried, it is much thicker and robust to protect against theft without causing inconvenience.

The ROAM lock uses a soft aluminum exoskeleton that protects against by gumming up angle grinder blades before they can reach the hardened steel core.
For the ROAM app, we created a user journey, and then designed the keyscreens in the app for each step.
